Canadian clearweed (Pilea pumila) is an annual in the nettle family native to eastern North America. It has smooth stems and bright green, ovate glossy leaves with toothed edges and long stalks. It grows 4–20 inches (0.7–70 cm) tall in moist, shady woods and gardens (but in my experience it can grow taller if it has to compete with other plants for dappled sun in shady areas).
In the spring, its leaves are bright limey green and translucent. In the fall, its glossy green leaves and stems turn yellow. Tiny greenish-yellow, wind-pollinated flowers (male and female on the same plant) appear in small clusters from midsummer to early autumn.
Its roots are shallow and fibrous, and stems can root where they touch soil. It looks like stinging nettle but has no stinging hairs. Due to its shallow roots, I have seen it grow easily and without issues on my partly shady and moist septic drain field. („Disclaimer” I’m not a septic expert! You must decide for yourself and preferably consult with your local experts if you plan to plant clear weed on a drain field!)

Ethical collection: All seeds are ethically collected on or near our property in Southern Maryland (USDA zone 7B). I never over-collect or trespass.
Continental and native zones only: Hard rule No. 1, No international shipments and no shipments beyond the contiguous 48 states and District of Columbia. Immediate refunds will be issued.
Native zones: Within the United States, I may be limited on sales to some jurisdictions based on local, state, or territory laws. I will check before sending any seeds outside of their native zones. If there is a question about whether the plant is native to your area, I will reach out.
I reserve the right to not sell seeds to customers in areas where they may be considered noxious or harmful (non-native and invasive). However, as a general rule, I have no issues shipping throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.
Packaging: Packaged seeds will have no marks other than the species name and year packaged. Refer to this website and other resources for planting instructions.
